Must-Grab Seasonal Deals Before Prices Rise (Because I Learned This the Hard Way… Obviously)

I didn’t always believe in must-grab seasonal deals before prices rise.

Like… I heard people talk about it. Saw those “BUY NOW BEFORE PRICES GO UP” signs and just assumed it was marketing drama. You know, the retail version of “limited time only” that somehow lasts three weeks.

And then—this still annoys me—I paid almost double for patio furniture.

    Yeah.

    Let me explain.

The Patio Chair Incident (I’m Still Not Over It)

So last year, I decided I was going to be a patio person.

You know the type. Morning coffee outside. Maybe a book. A plant I forget to water.

I found this perfect set of chairs in early spring. Cute, simple, not too expensive.

And I thought, “Eh, I’ll wait. Maybe it’ll go on sale.”

(It did not go on sale.)

I checked again in late May—price had gone up.

    June? Even higher.

By July I was basically panic-buying like:

“Fine. TAKE MY MONEY. I just want to sit outside like a normal person.”

    And that’s when I realized… oh.

Some stuff gets more expensive the closer you get to needing it.

    Groundbreaking. I know.

The Stuff You Should Never Wait On (Learn From My Mistakes)

There are certain things—specific, predictable things—that follow this annoying little pattern:

Cheap → Reasonable → Why is this so expensive?? → Sold out

    Let’s talk about those.

Summer Gear (aka “Why are pool floats suddenly luxury items?”)

Best time to buy: Late winter / early spring

    Worst time? Mid-summer.

I once saw a basic cooler go from $25 to $60.

Same cooler. Same plastic. Same… everything.

    It’s like stores collectively decided:

“Oh, you want to enjoy the sun? That’ll cost you.”

Now I grab summer stuff before I emotionally need it.

    Feels weird. Works anyway.

Holiday Decorations (Buy them when you’re over them)

This one took me YEARS to accept.

Best time to buy: Right after the holiday ends

But noooo. I used to wait until the next year.

Which is how I ended up paying full price for Halloween decorations that I literally saw discounted the year before.

    It’s painful.

Now I buy Christmas stuff when I’m sick of Christmas music.

Which feels wrong. But financially? Very right.

Winter Clothes (Yes, even when it’s freezing outside)

    Here’s the trick:

    • Early winter = expensive
    • End of winter = chef’s kiss discounts

But—and this is important—don’t wait too long.

    Because then it becomes:

Discounted → Limited sizes → Only neon green left

    And suddenly you’re asking yourself:

“Am I a neon green jacket person?”

(Answer: probably not. But also… maybe??)

The Emotional Battle of Buying Early (It’s a Thing, I swear)

No one warns you about this part.

Buying seasonal stuff early feels… unnatural.

Like buying sunscreen when it’s still cold outside.

Or grabbing a winter coat when you’re mentally in “iced coffee season.”

    Your brain goes:

    “We don’t need this yet.”

    But your wallet goes:

“We will need this. And it’ll be cheaper now.”

And then you just stand there. Conflicted. Holding a beach towel in March.

    Spring is sneaky.

It’s not as loud as holiday sales. No big countdowns. No chaos.

    But the deals? They’re there.

    • Gardening tools
    • Outdoor furniture (learned that one the hard way…)
    • Fitness gear

And here’s the thing—once people start actually using these things?

    Prices go up.

    Fast.

The “Wait or Buy Now” Rule I Made Up (and somehow works)

Okay, this is not scientific. At all.

    But it helps.

    I ask myself two questions:

    1. Will I definitely need this in 1–2 months?
    2. Will everyone else also need this at the same time?

If the answer is yes to both?

    I buy it early.

Because that’s when prices sneak up on you.

A Quick Story That Still Makes Me Laugh (and cringe a little)

I once waited to buy a fan during a heatwave.

    A FAN.

By the time I went to get one, the store looked like a scene from a survival movie.

Empty shelves. One broken box in the corner.

I finally found one online—for double the price.

When it arrived, my friend looked at me and said:

“You really thought you were the only one getting hot?”

    Rude. Accurate.

I’ve learned not to rely purely on vibes.

    Sometimes I peek at:

They give rough timelines so I don’t completely mess it up.

(Not that I haven’t ignored them before. I have. Repeatedly.)

The Dangerous Side of Seasonal Deals (Yeah… there is one)

Let’s be honest for a second.

This whole must-grab seasonal deals before prices rise thing can get… out of hand.

    You start justifying stuff like:

    • “It’s cheaper now!”
    • “I’ll need it eventually!”
    • “This is basically saving money!”

    And suddenly you own:

    • Three blankets
    • Two coolers
    • A random inflatable flamingo

Did you need all that? No.
Did it feel like a win? Also yes.

    So yeah. Balance.

My Personal “Don’t Be Dumb” Checklist

I literally repeat this to myself sometimes:

    • Do I actually need this?
    • Will I use it soon-ish?
    • Am I buying this just because it’s on sale?

If I answer wrong… I still sometimes buy it.

But at least I’m aware of my bad decisions now.

    Growth.

The Part Where I Admit I’m Still Not Perfect at This

    I still miss deals.

    I still overpay sometimes.

And yeah, I still have moments where I think:

    “I’ll just wait a little longer…”

(And then regret it. Immediately. Like clockwork.)

    But I’ve gotten better.

Not in a “I have spreadsheets and alerts” kind of way.

More like… I pause. Think. Time things slightly better.

    And honestly? That’s enough.
